Merbau Wood
Merbau is a heavy hardwood that is yellowish to orange-brown fresh timber with darkening to brown or dark red-brown upon exposure. Merbau being an attractive wood, with its growth ring figure and deep colour, is a popular hardwood derived largely from areas in South East Asia. With its high degree of natural durability and strength it is usually used externally in engineering, construction. Beyond that, merbau is quite resistant to termites and seasons well with kiln or air-drying, exhibiting only a low degrade and very little shrinkage movement. The grain of merbau can vary but it is usually interlocked or wavy, with a coarse but even texture, often prized for its attractiveness on backsawn material. It is widely used for strip flooring and suitable for heavy construction, power transmission poles, decking, heavy duty columns door, window frames and staircase.
